Every feature of a live exchange rate board

Rate Display covers the whole path from a base rate to the figure on the wall: where the rate comes from, what you add to it, how it is rounded, which screens show it and how they look.

Live rates on every screen

Screens are pushed changes over a live connection, so what the customer reads matches what you just saved.

  • Pushed, not polled

    Each board keeps a socket open to the server. A saved rate, a new ad or a changed theme reaches that branch's screens straight away, with no reload.

  • Prices that look like a sign

    Draw the prices plainly, in a digital face, on split-flap tiles, as seven-segment LED digits or as a dot-matrix sign, glowing in the theme's own colour.

  • One branch, one room

    A screen only ever receives its own branch's board, so a price meant for one branch never appears in another.

Rate sources and feeds

Type rates yourself, or let a feed fill them in on a schedule you choose.

  • Free rate sources

    Use Rate Display's own source, the European Central Bank reference rates via Frankfurter, ExchangeRate-API Open Access or Currency API. They need no key and work from the first day of the trial.

  • Paid rate sources

    Connect your own paid account with Open Exchange Rates, ExchangeRate-API, Fixer or currencylayer. Enter its key once; it is stored encrypted.

  • Your update frequency

    Read the feed every 1, 5, 15 or 30 minutes, hourly, every 6 hours or daily. The admin warns you when a pace would use up a provider's monthly requests.

  • Held for a second look

    A fetched rate too far from the last one is held until a person accepts or dismisses it. You set how far is too far.

  • Hand-typed rates still win

    Type a rate and it stands until the next fetch. Choose which columns and currencies the feed fills and leave the rest to your team.

Margins, rounding and columns

The board shows what a branch pays and charges: the base rate with that branch's margin, rounded exactly once.

  • Percentage or formula

    Add or subtract a percentage per currency per side, or write a formula with {rate}, numbers, brackets and + − × ÷.

  • Network, group, branch

    Set a margin for the whole network, override it for a group, and again for one branch. The most specific one applies.

  • Decimal length per currency

    Give each currency its own decimal places, or show a fixed total of digits so 1.3211, 0.2342 and 122.00 all line up.

  • Named columns

    Cash Buy and Cash Sell to start with; add, rename, reorder or retire columns such as TT, each with an Arabic heading.

Currency lists

One master list for the company, and a shorter list for each screen.

  • Master currency list

    Every currency is in the catalogue, switched off. Switch on the ones you deal in, each with its flag and its name in both languages.

  • Per-branch board lists

    Choose which currencies a branch or group shows and in what order. A branch without its own list uses its group's, then the network's.

Branches, groups and people

Organise the network the way it is run.

  • Groups of branches

    Put branches in groups by city, mall or brand, and set margins, themes, news and ads for a whole group at once.

  • A design per branch

    Assign a theme to the network, a group or one branch. The branch logo stays put when the theme changes.

  • Roles and history

    Super Admins shape the network, branch admins work within their branches, Viewers only read. Every change is kept in a history.

Themes and templates

Start from a ready-made theme, then make it yours.

  • Table, cards or rows

    A classic rate table, a tile for each currency, or rounded bands for tall screens. Same prices, same paging.

  • Areas you arrange

    Place the logo, rate table, scroll news, clock and ads areas on the screen's edges and size them by dragging, with a live preview.

  • Colours down to the cell

    Header background and text, currency code, price, row stripes and dividers, each set on its own.

  • Backgrounds

    A solid colour, a soft glow or an aurora; your own uploaded picture; or one of twelve backgrounds drawn for the product, from girih tiles to a dhow at sea.

  • Animation

    Rows rise or fade in, long lists page with a slide or fade, headings can shimmer, and a background picture can drift or slowly zoom.

  • Landscape or portrait

    Each theme is made for a screen shape and size, so it stays legible on the TV it is meant for.

English and Arabic together

Gulf counters serve customers in both languages. So does the board.

  • Both on one board

    Currency names, column headings and the branch name in both languages, the screen's own language first.

  • Stacked or inline

    The second language beneath the first and a little smaller, or both side by side on one line at the same size.

  • A bilingual admin

    Your team works in English or Arabic, with the whole admin mirrored right to left in Arabic.

Logo, scroll news, ads and widgets

The rest of the screen works for you too.

  • Logo

    Upload a company logo and, where a branch needs one, its own. Choose its size and position, and whether the branch name sits beside it.

  • Scroll News

    A news line across the board with messages for the network, a group or a branch, each with its own colours if you like.

  • Image ads

    A playlist in the ads area, or full screen when an ad's turn comes. Pick how each ad fits its place and how it arrives: fade, slide, zoom, wipe or flip.

  • Video ads

    Upload videos and play them in the same playlist, in the ads area or full screen. If the paid plan lapses, video ads stop showing until it is renewed.

  • Clock and weather

    The branch's local time in its own time zone, and the current weather for its city, refreshed by the server every few minutes.

Screens and addresses

No app store, no installer, no USB stick of files.

  • Short screen addresses

    Each branch gets a short address such as screens.yourdomain.com/deira-7k3m, easy to type with a TV remote. Add /ar/ for the Arabic board.

  • Replace an address in one step

    If a device goes missing, issue the branch a new address. The old one stops working at once and its screens are told so.
